Boris, Japan's sensational experimental rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Brighton Music Hall!
Boris was formed in Tokyo (Japan) in 1992 by Atsuo, Takeshi, Wata, and Nagata (all members go by one name only. They named themselves after a song same name on the Melvins' 1991 album Bullhead. Their musical style is best described as a blend of experimental (a genre defined broadly by exploratory sensibilites radically opposed to, and questioning of, institutionalized compositional, performing, and aesthetic conventions in music), avant rock (a subgenre of rock characterized by improvisational performances, avant-garde influences, odd instrumentation, opaque lyrics, strange compositional structures and rhythms, and an underlying rejection of commercial aspirations), and noise rock (style of experimental rock - rooted in noise music – that uses the traditional instrumentation and iconography of rock music, but incorporates atonality and especially dissonance, and frequently discards typical songwriting conventions). They've had a stellar career with 23 studio albums, 5 live albums, 2 extended plays, 2 demo tapes, 13 music videos, 5 video albums, and 6 singles. They've collaborated with many renowned artists such as Merzbow, Keiji Haino, Sunn O))), Michio Kurihara, Ian Astbury, Endon, and GOTH-TRAD. The band currently consists of Takeshi (vocals, bass guitar, and guitar), Wata (vocals, guitar, and keyboards), Atsuo Mizuno (vocals and drums), and touring member Michio Kurihara.
Don't miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to experimental rock music!
