Machinedrum (birth name Travis Stewart) was born in Eden (North Carolina) in 1982 and is an electronic music producer. His musical style is best described as a blend of alternative hip hop (a style that encompasses the wide range of hip hop styles that aren’t mainstream and draws from funk and rock, as well as jazz, soul, country, electronic, and even folk music), Glitch hop (a blend of hip hop and glitch, the latter being a genre of electronic music that emerged in the late 1990s and incorporates the deliberate use of glitch based media), Intelligent Dance Music (aka IDM, a genre of electronic music influenced by developments in underground dance music such as Detroit techno and various breakbeat styles from the UK), dubstep (a genre of electronic dance music that originated in England and features overwhelming bass lines, reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals), and house (an electronic music style that began in Chicago in the early 80, characterized by repetitive 4/4 beats, rhythms mainly provided by drum machines, off-beat hi hat cymbals, and synthesized basslines). He’s had a stellar career with 10 studio albums and he’s collaborated with Tiombe Lockhart, Theophilus London, Jesse Boykins III, Azealia Banks, Mickey Factz, and many other renowned artists.
