Cigarettes After Sex, Texas’ sensational ambient music artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Brighton Music Hall!
Cigarettes After Sex was formed in El Paso in 2008 by vocalist, guitarist, and bassist Greg Gonzalez. The band’s been through many line up changes since then and it currently consists of Greg (vocals, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and bass), Phillip Tubbs (keyboards and electric guitar), Randy Miller (bass), and Jacob Tomsky (drums). Their musical style is best described as a blend of ambient (a style of gentle, largely electronic instrumental music with no persistent beat, used to create or enhance a mood or atmosphere), shoegaze (a subgenre of indie rock and neo psychedelia, characterized by the blurring of component musical parts—typically significant guitar distortion, feedback and obscured vocals—into indistinguishable mixtures of sound), dream pop (a subgenre of alternative rock and neo psychedelia characterized by breathy vocals, introspective or existential lyrics, and a focus on textures and moods rather than propulsive rock riffs), and slowcore (a subgenre of alternative and indie rock, generally characterized by bleak lyrics, downbeat melodies, slower tempos and minimalist arrangements). They cite Françoise Hardy, Miles Davis, Julee Cruise, and Cocteau Twins as significant influences. They’ve had a stellar career with 1 studio albums, 1 extended plays, 25 singles, and 1 demo tape.
Don't miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to shoegaze, dream pop, ambient, and slowcore music!
