Dumpstaphunk, Louisiana's sensational funk artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Brighton Music Hall!
Dumpstaphunk was formed in the early 2000s by keyboardist Ivan Neville and his guitar playing cousin, Ian Neville. The band's been through a few line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Ivan, Ian, Tony Hall, Nick Daniels III, and Alvin Ford Jr. While their musical style can be broadly classified as funk (a genre that originated in the mid 1960s when African American musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of soul music, jazz, and rhythm and blues), it also includes elements of soul, contemporary pop/rock, New Orleans R&B (a type of R&B music - that was a major influence on ska and reggae - from the city of New Orleans, characterized by extensive use of piano and horn sections, complex syncopated 'second line' rhythms, and lyrics that reflect New Orleans life), funk metal (a fusion of funk and heavy metal that takes the loud guitars and riffs of the latter and blends them with the popping bass lines and syncopated rhythms of the former), and heavy metal. They’ve had a stellar career with 3 studio albums and they've performed at Bonnaroo, Voodoo Music Experience, Hangout Festival, Caloundra Music Festival, New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and many other major music events.
