Front 242, Belgium’s sensational electronic artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Brighton Music Hall!
Front 242 was formed in Aarschot (Leuven, Belgium) in 1981 by Daniel Bressanutti and Dirk Bergen. Their goal was to create music and graphic design using emerging electronic tools. They released their debut single (Principles) in 1981 and year later they recruited Patrick Codenys and Jean-Luc De Meyer to complete the line up. The band’s been through many line up changes since then and it currently consists of Jean-Luc (lead vocals), Daniel (keyboards, programming, and live mixing), Patrick (keyboards, programming, guitars, and samplers), Richard Jonckheere aka Richard 23 (electronic percussion, and backing vocals), and Tim Kroker (electronic drums). Their musical style is best described as a blend of electronic body music aka EBM (a genre that combines elements of industrial music and electronic dance music, and is characterized by hard danceable electronic beats, clear undistorted or slightly electronically distorted vocals, shouts or growls with reverberation and echo effects, and repetitive sequencer lines), post industrial, and techno. They’ve had a stellar career with 11 studio albums, 4 live albums, 4 compilation albums, 9 music videos, 23 singles, and 1 remix album. They’re widely regarded as the pioneers of EBM and they’ve had a profound influence on electronic and industrial music.
