J Boog, California’s sensational reggae and R&B artist is bringing his signature sounds to Brighton Music Hall!
J Boog (birth name Jerry Afemata) was born in Long Beach in 1985 and is a vocalist and songwriter of Samoan descent. When he was 4 years old, he started to take an interest in music after listening to his older sister play the piano. She introduced him to the music of Bob Marley which sparked his passion for reggae and his other siblings also exposed him to rap, and rock, with artists such as Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, Sugar Minott, Guns N' Roses, N.W.A, Temptations, The Dramatics, Nate Dogg, and Sublime. It led to him developing a musical style that blends island music with Jamaican reggae along with elements of rock and R&B. He’s had a stellar career with 4 studio albums, 20 singles, 1 mix tape, and 8 music videos. His work has also been featured on the compilation albums Don Corleon Presents Major Riddim, We Remember Gregory Isaacs, Pacific Reggae Volume 1, and Songs for Reggae Lovers Volume 5. He’s also appeared as a guest artist on tracks by Monsta, Common Kings, Chris Boomer, Kingi and Pistallion, Da Professor, B-Legit, and Jah Maoli. He won the 2012 International Reggae and World Music Award for Best New Entertainer.
