Terence Blanchard, Louisiana’s sensational jazz artist is bringing his signature sounds to the Brighton Music Hall!
Terence Oliver Blanchard was born in New Orleans in 1962 and is a jazz trumpeter, composer, and arranger. His musical style is best described as a blend of post bop (a modern jazz style that continues the distinguishing characteristics that separate jazz from the world of pop and rock), straight ahead jazz (a term used to describe any jazz from the '70s onward that is not influenced by fusion and adheres closely to the historical traditions of jazz), and crossover jazz (a genre that’s rooted in jazz but aims for mainstream popularity by using a lot of improvisation). He’s had a stellar career with many hit albums and he’s composed over forty film scores. He’s received many accolades including 5 Grammy Awards (for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance – Group, Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album, and 2 for Best Jazz Instrumental Solo) and a Central Ohio Film Critics Association (COFCA) Award (for Best Score). He’s also been nominated for a Soul Train Music Award (for Best Jazz Album), an Emmy Award (for Best Original Score for a TV Mini-Series), a World Soundtrack Award (for Soundtrack Composer of the Year), a Sierra Award (for Best Score), a Golden Globe (for Best Original Score – Motion Picture), 2 Black Reel Awards (for Best Original Score), and 8 more Grammy Awards.
