The English Beat, England's sensational ska revival artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Brighton Music Hall!
The English Beat was formed in Birmingham (England) in 1978 by guitarist Dave Wakeling, vocalist Ranking Roger, guitarist Andy Cox, bassist David Steele, drummer Everett Moreton, and saxophonist Saxa. Over the years, their musical style has spanned many genre such as new wave (a genre of rock music that moved away from smooth blues and rock and roll sounds to create pop music that incorporated electronic and experimental music, mod, and disco), ska (a genre that - originated in Jamaica in the late 1950s – combines elements of Caribbean mento and calypso with American jazz and rhythm and blues, and is characterized by a walking bass line accented with rhythms on the off beat), 2-tone (a late 1970s ska revival in the United Kingdom that fused traditional ska music with punk rock attitude, energy and musical elements), and post punk (a broad type of rock music that emerged from the punk movement of the 1970s, in which artists departed from the traditional garage rock template of punk to pursue a variety of avant garde sensibilities). They've had a stellar career with 4 studio albums, 1 live album, 7 compilation albums, and 15 singles. The band currently consists of Dave Wakeling, Nucci Cantrell, Matt Morrish, Kevin Lum, King Schascha, Minh Quan, and Brad Engstrom.
