The Holdup, California’s sensational reggae artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Brighton Music Hall!
The Holdup was formed in San Jose in 2006 by drummer Danny Flores, guitarist Tyler Scurti, and vocalist Mike Garmany. The band’s been through many line up changes over the years and it currently consists of Mike (vocals), Grant Averill (guitar), and Justin Kastner (bass). Their musical style is best described as a blend of reggae (while sometimes used in a broad sense to refer to most types of popular Jamaican dance music, the term reggae more properly denotes a particular music style that was strongly influenced by traditional mento as well as American jazz and rhythm and blues, and evolved out of the earlier genres ska and rocksteady), hip hop, and pop. Their breakthrough came with their debut album (Stay Gold) hitting at #1 on the iTunes Reggae charts and one of its tracks (Good Times) getting heavy airplay on a number of college radio programs as well as on the renowned San Francisco station, Live 105. Their second and third albums (Confidence and Still Gold) hit #1 and #2 on iTunes’ and Billboard’s Reggae charts respectively. They’ve had a stellar career with 5 studio albums and they’ve received many accolades including the 2010 iTunes’ Best New Reggae Artist award.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists add a unique touch to reggae music!
