X, California’s sensational punk rock artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Brighton Music Hall!
X was formed in Los Angeles in 1977 by bassist, vocalist, and songwriter John Doe (birth name John Nommensen Duchac) and gifted guitarist Billy Zoom (birth name Ty Kindell) whom he had met through a newspaper ad. They both loved The Ramones and wanted to play music that was fast, loud, and honest, and so they began jamming together. John would bring his poetry-writing girlfriend Exene Cervenka to band practices and she eventually became the band’s vocalist. They went through a handful of drummers before selecting Donald J. “DJ” Bonebrake to complete the line-up. It didn’t take long for them to get noticed on L.A’s punk scene and they got a record deal in 1978. They released their debut album (titled Los Angeles) in 1980 and it was critically acclaimed by the press with over 50,000 copies sold (an impressive sum for an independent punk album). The album has made it on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and the band’s had a stellar career with 5 more studio albums, 3 live albums, 2 compilation albums, 1 EP, and 13 singles. The band went on hiatus during the mid-to-late 90s but reunited in the early 2000s.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists and their exhilarating blend of punk, rockabilly, and blues, with a sound and style that outlived the movement!
